Meet Cygalle: Where Hemp Is Refining Luxury Skincare

The relatively sudden rise to new discoveries is giving an impetus to luxury skincare development because they not only provide more effective results, but also a platform for consumer guidance concerning the ‘hows’ and ‘whens’ use. When it comes to grooming, education is a prerequisite essential for creating a market appetite. In the past, so much about cosmetics and toiletries has been taboo, largely through ignorance.
Since the beginning of time man has dreamt two splendid dreams about himself; How to cheat death and how to defeat old age. Our main interest here is not age itself but rather how to be prepared for the causes that take us by surprise. Growing old is an eminently individual matter. Each of us ages according to our bodies, heredity, biological make-up, mentality and our very own evolution. Each of us has our own sequences, peculiarities of which must be respected.
Can the aging process be slowed down and in some cases actually reversed? Can we reclaim elements of our lost youth? Well, vast possibilities have been discovered in essential oils, perfumes and aromatics, particularly with regard to the problem of regeneration. Our bodies, like all highly sensitive and intricate pieces of machinery, need constant attention. It is not enough just to fuel them with food and drink. They require servicing and our systems require frequent (‘decokes’) de-carbonization to rid us of toxic poisons, which cause so many ills and early aging. In short, nature has always had its own remedy and cure for most things and it might surprise you what is one of the oldest aids in medicine. Allow me to lend you some advice. More mature people cannot buy youth; it is a reward.
It was my good fortune to meet Cygalle Dias earlier in 2019. I was then writing a column for Forbes about the ever-changing (and many times, confusing) NY fashion week. And although I was dealing mostly with the apparel fashion scene, Cygalle thought it would be interesting for me and my assistant Oliwia in discussing her new forward thinking product line. Our first encounter was during a press reception in the solemn surroundings of Rockefeller Center in Midtown Manhattan. Cygalle was showcasing and presenting her eponymous line with great enthusiasm to sprightly fashion editors and influencers who seemed at times a trifle over zealous, one could not help but being respectful and impressed.
Beauty expert, Cygalle Dias, has harnessed her experience in holistic healing and organic treatments to create a breakthrough line of Hemp and oxygen infused skincare. In 2009, Vanity Fair named her Cygalle Healing Spa at Casa De Campo, Dominican Republic, ‘The Top Global Spa’. Her unique treatments attracted a celebrity following that included Kate Hudson, Helena Christensen, and Rosario Dawson. In 2015, she started her skincare business, CYGALLE, a natural and organic skincare line. She wanted to provide some of the favorite creams and emollients that her spa clients wanted to enjoy at home. Cygalle realized that there was a strong demand for her products that lead her to develop a full organic skincare line.
Cygalle was born in Israel, and she was raised in the US, Britian, and Australia. Her father, Sir Ronald Dias, a Knight of Malta, founded the Dead Sea brand Ahava. But Cygalle’s real inspiration came after meeting friends who practiced organic living as well as visiting spas that focused on healing treatments. She drew upon her twenty-five years’ experience in fashion and marketing to start her own, Cygalle Healing Spa in 2008. Her spa’s success propelled her to establish her CYGAlle, her eponymous organic skincare line in 2015.

So you might ask why Hemp? Hemp (cannabidiol) is a naturally occurring, non-psychoactive compound of the hemp plant. The benefits from topical application of Hemp are multifold. Hemp is both a powerful anti-inflammatory and a protective antioxidant. It soothes sensitive skin; decreases excessive sebum (oil) production; counteracts free radical damage at the skin’s cellular level. Hemp supports the skin’s natural healing.
The Earth Masque is a luxurious mask with rejuvenating mud sourced from the Dead Sea, combined with essential oils, including calming lavender. This masque is enriched with Hemp.

I recently had the privilege of speaking with Cygalle Dias about at what point she knew that she aimed to create a skincare line,how after extensive trials, she found a harmonious balance between the activator and a nutrient delivery system for the skin to best absorb Hemp and why it is important for consumers to understand this fresh and forward thinking skincare brand!
Joseph DeAcetis: At what point did you know that you wanted to create a skincare line?
Cygalle Dias: My family is in the spa and skincare business. My father started Ahava and later my brother Nathan founded a spa in London. After having been around the skincare business my whole life, it seemed a natural progression to combine my background in experiential marketing with my passion for health and beauty. I started by experimenting with pop up spa experiences in the Hamptons. Later, I was approached by Casa de Campo in the Dominican Republic to create a holistic spa within their resort. This opportunity gave me to chance to work with all aspects of spa development from designing the physical space and training therapists and technicians to creating formulas for an all-natural skincare line. In 2015 I founded CYGALLE, a natural and organic skincare line.
JD: Why did you wish to improve skincare?
CD:What goes on your body eventually gets into your body. To me it was really important to create a skincare line that is free of chemicals. Though our skin protects us, it’s vulnerable to harmful outside influences like toxic additives. A study published in the American Journal of Public Health looked into the skin’s absorption rates of chemicals. According to this study, the skin absorbs up to 64% of contaminants to which it is exposed.
JD: Once you determined your specific goal for skin health, which steps did you take to start your brand?
CD:My focus is on creating products made from the purest of ingredients that achieve the most effective results. That’s what moved me the most about the benefits of Hemp (cannabidiol). I consulted with leading industry experts and visited research labs. Additionally, I sought out organic formulators, healers, and other holistic lifestyle specialists around the world.
JD: In your words, what was your final choice of active ingredients?
CD: Once I decided on Hemp, my team began research on the interactions between natural ingredients. After extensive trials, we found a harmonious balance between the activator and a nutrient delivery system for the skin to best absorb Hemp. The oxygen (o2) that is infused is a delivery system that amplifies the Hemp oil and benefits.
JD: Talk to Forbes about the what you believe consumers seek in men’s and women’s grooming products?
CD: Ease and results.
JD: Who do you see as your primary audience and how will your product speak to your consumers and sustain their interest?
CD:Hemp in the cosmetic industry is a new but powerful mainstay. My audience is diverse but they are consumers who are smart and open-minded to the natural and healing properties of Hemp. Just look at celeb beauty influencers who are full believers in the benefits of Hemp: Gwenth Paltrow, Jennifer Anniston, and Kim Kardashian. Regardless of age, everyone wants Hemp’s cell renewal benefits. Our consumer base reaches all ages and genders.
JD: What do you feel will be the most effective advertising platform and presentation for Cygalle?
CD:I am a true advocate for experiential marketing. All my businesses have thrived from it. It gives me the ability to target an influencer market that in turn elevates and builds brand loyalty.
JD: Tell Forbes in detail about the current product line and why it is important for consumers to understand this fresh idea?
CD: As I said before I believe Hemp is a mainstay in the beauty industry. It turns out Hemp oil has antioxidant properties which lessen the visible signs of aging skin. By counteracting free-radical damage, Hemp anti-aging skincare is believed to help visibly diminish issues like wrinkles, skin dullness, and reduces inflammation.
JD: Can someone get high off of this product?
CD: (Laughs…) No it does’t make you high. Some people hear the word “hemp” and they equate it with smoking marijuana. Hemp, cannabidiol, is a non-psyco-active derivative of the hemp plant.
JD: Talk to Forbes about how technology-aided you in the development of using Hemp?
CD: I began using tinctures for myself and then when it was safe, for my dog. I immediately felt the benefits from the inside out. My dog was relieved of anxiety and I was relieved by that! Seriously though, I asked myself: “if I’m seeing these benefits from the inside-out, what about from the outside-in? Technology allowed me to communicate my desire to develop this brand and then enabled my production team to produce exactly what I needed in my proprietary Hemp formula.
JD: Where is the product made and why? What are your sustainable efforts?
CD: First, we source our Hemp oil from organic growers in NY, Arizona and Colorado. For our skin masque, we use purifying mud from the Dead Sea. Our unique products are packaged in eco-friendly and protective UV glass to block out harmful light. Our protective packaging stabilizes the natural ingredients.
JD: What are your projections and growth strategy for the next few years?
CD:I started this line because of my passion and I was able to develop it privately. Now that I see the product work as I had hoped, I am excited to share my discovery with others; I see it appealing to a wider market. We are beginning to talk with investors and potential partners. Despite the fact that many Hemp topicals have emerged, CYGALLE stands uniquely positioned to occupy the niche of luxuryHemp skincare.
JD: What are your day-to-day responsibilities?
CD: Meet with my team, see how everyone’s feeling. discuss and analyze our web growth, social media platform effectiveness, and other marketing strategies. Use my product. Pay attention to my dog. Network. Socialize, then rest.
JD: In your words, what is your competitive advantage in the market?
CD:My lifelong background in this industry is why I’m trusted as a health and beauty entrepreneur and expert. Often, I am approched by corporations, celebrities and high-profile luxury entertainment events for edorsement, collaboration and prouct tie-in.
